PEARL Talk: Book Presentation

On 4 December, NOVA PEARL held a special edition of its PEARL Talks series.

This time, PEARL had the honour of welcoming Beatriz Garcia (Visiting Lecturer and PhD Candidate at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon; researcher at Lisbon Public Law) to present and discuss her book “A Responsabilidade Civil Extracontratual do Estado e Demais Entidades Públicas por Danos Decorrentes da Utilização de Inteligência Artificial no Exercício da Função Administrativa” (“Non-Contractual Liability of the State and Other Public Entities for Damage Resulting from the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Exercise of Administrative Functions”). The session also featured contributions from António Mendes Oliveira (Judge of the Administrative and Tax Courts) and Leonor Caçador Ferreira (NOVA School of Law, Master’s student in Public Law and Regulation) as discussants, and Filipe Brito Bastos (NOVA School of Law) as moderator.

It was a highly engaging debate that raised more questions than it provided answers — an almost inevitable outcome in discussions on Artificial Intelligence, especially when intersecting with the Civil Liability of Public Entities.
